ISESE DAY 2024; Oyo state setting pace for Culture and Tourism development in the region

By Olusegun Celestine Oni

Interestingly, I didn’t see the effort the Oyo state government is bringing into culture and tourism development coming after the first 4 years of the Engineer Seyi Makinde’s administration ( Omituntun 1.0 ).  It is very clear that the governor have his plan intact with the focus on infrastructure development in the state which is the bedrock for tourism to strive in any region.

It all starts with a power packed Tourism International Summit held at the International conference center where Tourism investors were invited to see the many benefits and reasons to invest in Tourism in Oyo state. The Summit is the first of its kind in the history of Oyo state where over two thousand Tourism investors and Enthusiasts gathered under one roof for two days.

Within the frame of five(5) months, the Oyo state gorvement had been able to sponsored events under the administration of Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun ( Omo Iya Alagbo ) The honourable commissioner of culture and Tourism . Starting from the First International Tourism Summit, The Oyo state Travel and Tourism Exhibition by the Twins in Tourism, Oyo state Masquerade and Fuji Festival, World Sango Festival, World Isese Day holiday declaration.

The Declaration of Public Holiday for the Traditional worshipers in the state is also the first of its kind in the history of Oyo state after Lagos and Ogun state had been doing so for the past decade. The collaboration of all the south west state in Nigeria to observe the traditional and culture of the land is really a great development to respect the ancestors and the roots.

As we know Nigeria is blessed with diverse of culture and traditions, it’s observance cal only lead to creating awareness for the international community to see and attract visitors to celebrate with the Country and the Yorubas in Particular.

August 20 is now officially declare as the day for the traditionalist in Nigeria.
